Solar collector panels and solar electric cell panels are also available, as is geothermal heating. Prairie West provides Energy Star Performance options. Energy Star rating means a home is 15 more efficient than the Minnesota residential building code requires.
Going green will save you money now in lower energy costs. It will also make you money later when you go to sell! Studies show that energy efficient homes often have a higher resale value since their utility costs are lower. While many factors influence prices, a home built to Energy Star specifications can offer more value to a potential buyer than an average stick frame house, because of the monthly savings it can provide.
Energy Star rated homes qualify for energy efficient mortgages. Savings in utilities are added to the appraised value of the home, and applicable tax credits are added to the homebuyers income.
